Exploring the Western Regions:Embark on an 18-Day Panoramic Journey Aboard the ‘Xiaoxiang’ 🌄
Detailed Introduction to Routes or Destinations
The ‘Xiaoxiang’ special train is a deep Western China-themed tourist train launched by Xinjiang Pathfinder International Travel Service, centered on ‘slow travel, deep experience.’ It connects the natural wonders and cultural treasures of six provinces and regions: Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Xinjiang. The 2026 route has been fully upgraded, covering Xinjiang’s three major geographical units—the Yardang landforms of Eastern Xinjiang, the grasslands and lakes of Northern Xinjiang, and the desert oases of Southern Xinjiang—while incorporating cultural experiences such as intangible cultural heritage performances and folk home visits. This allows tourists to experience the geographical transition and cultural fusion from the Jiangnan water towns to the Western deserts in a moving ‘star-rated hotel.’
The train adopts a ‘special train + local boutique hotel’ model, visiting scenic spots during the day and traveling at night, saving time and avoiding fatigue from long-distance rides. The carriages are equipped with air conditioning, charging ports, and panoramic windows, with some room types featuring private bathrooms. Xinjiang specialty meals are provided throughout the journey, greatly enhancing travel comfort.

Exploring the Western Regions: Embark on an 18-Day Panoramic Journey Aboard the ‘Xiaoxiang’ 🌄 Depart from Guangzhou Baiyun Station, heading west along the Beijing-Guangzhou, Longhai, and Lanzhou-Xinjiang lines, passing through cities such as Changsha, Wuchang, Xinyang, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, and Lanzhou. During the day, enjoy the magnificent views of the Central Plains, Loess Plateau, and Hexi Corridor from the panoramic windows. At night, the train travels through the Gobi and deserts, evoking the imagery of ‘a solitary smoke straight in the vast desert.’

Eastern Xinjiang Exploration (D4)
Arrive in Hami in the afternoon and head to the Great Sea Road Devil City. This was once a key passage on the ancient Silk Road and now preserves the most complete Yardang landform group in China. With a professional guide, tourists can hike through the ‘Castle Group’ and ‘Fleet Group,’ capture the light and shadow spectacle at sunset, and feel the shock of a ‘Martian landscape.’

Northern Xinjiang Panorama (D5-D10)
Take the special train from Hami to Urumqi, visit the snow-capped mountains and lakes of Tianchi, explore the International Grand Bazaar to experience the diverse ethnic trade culture; then head deep into Kanas, staying two nights in Jiadengyu to thoroughly explore Kanas Lake, Hemu Ancient Village, and Colorful Beach, capturing the misty Tuvan log cabins and Danxia sunsets. Next, traverse the essence of the Duku Highway, visit the Nalati Sky Grassland and the Bayanbulak Nine Bends and Eighteen Turns, experiencing the wonder of ‘seeing four seasons in one day and different skies in ten miles.’

Southern Xinjiang Charm (D11-D15)
Take the special train from Kuqa to Kashgar, visit the Karakul Lake on the Pamir Plateau (with reflections of Muztagh Ata), the Stone City ruins, and the Golden Grassland Wetland; experience folk home visits in Tashkurgan, listen to eagle flute performances, and taste hand-pulled rice; return to Kashgar to explore the Old City, Id Kah Mosque, and Fragrant Concubine’s Tomb, feeling the millennium-old charm of the ‘Pearl of the Silk Road’; finally, visit the Lop Nur Village and Bosten Lake, understanding the ‘water town code’ of Southern Xinjiang amidst the interplay of desert and lake.
